Summer Activities for Kids: Road Trip Bingo

Packing up the car, hitting the road, turning up the tunes, and snacking a tad more than usual is a summer staple for many families. And if you’re planning a road trip with your little ones sometime soon, turn the car into a mobile playroom and have family fun on-the-go!

On-the-Go Bingo

Simply staring out the window and watching scenery go by isn’t the only thing to do during a long car ride! Add some road fun into the mix with a lil’ observation game that will make the time fly by.

What you’ll need:

  • If you’re up for a creative challenge, design or draw a custom bingo card (5 x 5 grid of 25 squares). Instead of numbers, fill the squares with images of what you can easily spot on the road! This can include a car, motorcycle, truck, warning sign, construction cone, farm field, flowers, lake, mountain, animals, and more.
  • If you want to keep things a little simpler, just find and print out a ready-made template.
  • A clipboard to keep the bingo card in place.
  • A pen or crayon for your toddler, so that they can mark what they see!
  • Optional: Prep some prizes to make the game that much more interesting! (A candy necklace, anyone?)

Game rules:

  • The layout of the card may be different, but the rules stay the same! Keep an eye out, cross off the things you see on the road, and once you get 5 in a row horizontally or vertically – shout out BINGO!

If you want to sprinkle in some learning during the drive, you can also switch out the images for the letters of the alphabet and encourage your kiddo to look out for letters on different license plates!
